7 Steps to Sound Nutrition™ is possibly North-America's most visionary, all-encompassing approach to nutrition. It is a synthesis of scientific and holistic approaches and Eastern and Western insights. It provides you with a customized nutritional road-map that enables you to actualize and optimize your wellness goals.

This step-by-step program is intended to enhance your awareness of your own power and the power of nutrition in healing and living optimally. With each step, you unlock another secret code in the mystery of how foods react to and impact the health of your unique body type. You tap more fully into the real power of foods. You come to revel in the knowledge that every time you eat you have the power to influence your health - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. 7 Steps to Sound Nutrition™ is designed to nourish your body and soul and move you away from diet mentality into true nutritional consciousness.

This comprehensive approach to nutrition will empower you to transform your life and become the master of your journey toward optimum wellness.

Step One: Your Journey Begins

The Comprehensive Nutritional Intake (CNI) I have designed looks at your entire body. Its purpose is to build a knowledge bridge for both of us. The CNI helps you to understand who you are, and why your symptoms or conditions have manifested in the way they have. It helps me understand your relationship with food and how your lifestyle dictates your current food choices. It allows you to define your goals and teaches you to find a purpose in creating a sound nutritional lifestyle by linking it to your highest values. You begin to think about food in a new way and with a depth you might well never have experienced!

As part of the CNI, I ask you to fill out an Advanced Nutri-Body® Analysis. This thorough questionnaire asks questions about your symptoms - how you feel physically, mentally and emotionally. Signs and symptoms are usually an indication that there are some nutritional deficiencies, excesses or weaknesses in the body that sometimes cannot be detected in the blood or other laboratory tests. This in-depth analysis helps both of us listen to what your body is telling you, and to see just where your body is "at" nutritionally. Only then do we create your personalized road map. Your journey toward optimum wellness through sound nutrition has begun.

Step Two: Building Your Nutritional Foundation

The customized Nutritional Foundation Program I create for you based on Step One forms your foundation for wellness. Incorporating these recommendations into your wellness journey guarantees that you clean up your existing diet, move toward becoming a whole foodist, correct nutrient deficiencies or excesses, ensure balanced macronutrient ratios (protein, essential fats and carbohydrates) ratios, strengthen the liver and digestive system, balance the endocrine system, alleviate symptoms and improve overall health. Increased energy, weight loss and an overall sense of well-being are often experienced.

These recommendations offer longer-term value too; they contain vital information both for preventative health and for slowing the aging process. This Nutritional Foundation is body, mind and soul-awakening, allowing you to use the power of foods to influence your biochemistry in a positive way. At Step Two, you truly see that the slightest eliminations, additions and adjustments to your diet can make a significant difference in how you feel!

Step Three: Fueling Your Metabolic Type

Once your foundation has been established and you are moving to a greater state of balance in the body, it is then important to determine and understand your Metabolic Type. Now is when you and the future of medicine join together. Quite simply, this step helps you to understand how your unique body type uses food for energy so you can invite wellness in. It allows you to move further away from diet mentality and truly see that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to nutrition.

Metabolic Typing is about fueling your autonomic nervous system (ANS), which is the "grand regulator" of every metabolic process in the body. When you understand how your unique ANS functions, then you will know exactly which foods and what ratios of macronutrients your body will need to produce enough energy to function optimally. Knowing your Metabolic Type takes the guess work out of "what can I eat?", so you can progress on your journey to optimum wellness. It will give you certainty that the foods you are choosing are right or your unique biochemistry.

Step Four: Feeding Your Ayurvedic Constitution

Ayurveda means the science of life. It is one of the oldest healing systems that exist today. It is about helping you understand who you really are - your personality type and body type. Only when you know who you are and the elements that make you up can you then consciously choose foods and lifestyle practices to keep those elements in balance.

In this session you will earn why your body shape and characteristic traits are the way they are. You will understand what illness and conditions you are prone to and what you can do to prevent them. You will have certainty as to what foods are most balancing for you and which ones you should avoid. You will also find out what style of yoga and exercise would be most beneficial for you. This session will even teach you which herbal teas, spices, color therapy and aromatherapy are best to use. Most importantly, Ayurveda is about creating and maintaining balance in the body because without balance, wellness cannot manifest.

Step Five: Soulful Nourishment

The first four steps are about nourishing your body. This step is all about nourishing your soul. In fact it is this step where I see my clients make the greatest shift in their relationship with themselves, their bodies and their food.

I have witnessed so many of my clients' symptoms, illnesses, imbalances and emotional eating issues linked to unresolved conflicts, traumas and stressors in their lives. I have also seen these same issues manifest in the body as a result of being disconnected to their purpose and life's mission. It is when we resolve the unresolved, that great healing, a change in physiology, a deeper love for self and others and a shift in consciousness begins to evolve. It is at this time that food is used with greater intention, attention and purpose.

This step can take many different forms depending on your unique circumstances. For some I use The Demartini Method® - a series of scientifically proven questions that helps resolve the unresolved conflicts in our lives and bring more love and gratitude to our hearts. This Method can also be used to transform body image issues or other stressors in your life that are preventing you from eating well. For other Soulful Nourishment can be about learning how to eat consciously, creating a sacred Table, using food to enhance and awaken your spirit, tapping into the meaning of food and how it has influenced your life, or helping you overcome obstacles or "self-sabotage" moments that prevent you from carrying on with your nutritional lifestyle. This step can even help to analyze the possible emotions behind every one of your food cravings. Whatever your challenges are, they are all important pieces to consider on your journey. Eating is one thing, but nourishing yourself is another. It takes soulful nourishment to manifest true physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well being.

Step Six: Seasonal Eating

Connecting to the seasons and transitioning your food choices as the seasons change is an incredibly important tool for you to master. At this nutrition step you will learn how to maintain balance throughout the year, how to prevent common colds and flu, how to listen to your body, how to be in tune with Mother Nature, how to connect to the earth and environment by eating what is seasonally available, how to create variety from season to season and the importance of adjusting your lifestyle as each season turns.

Seasonal eating also helps to awaken the intuitive eater within. Eating intuitively is the most beautiful way to nourish the body, mind and soul. It is at this step that you will learn to listen, surrender and trust what your body is asking for in any given moment of any given day.

There is a perfection and purpose to the foods we receive at each season and having awareness of that magnificence is an integral part of your nutritional journey. When you tap into the power of food and learn how to transition your diet seasonally, you will have gained knowledge in how to eat year after year. You will come to realize that short-term diets are a wave of the past and do not even take into account the divine perfection of eating with Mother Nature's wisdom.
